PTE Marks Distribution Chart 2023 Latest, Know Each PTE Question, Weightage, Score & Importance | PTE Guide

Pearson PTE is a computer-based exam to test your English Language proficiency. Pearson PTE has developed an automated scoring system without human involvement to score your PTE test. Although Pearson (PTE test-makers) has not officially disclosed the PTE score breakdown, we'll try to understand the weightage of each question in PTE against a total mark of 90 in this blog post.

Understand the Marking System of PTE

  • Each PTE section is scored on different parameters.
  • The maximum marks in PTE are 90.

  • Some questions have a single short answer. A correct answer gets 1 point, while an incorrect answer gets no point. For example, Answer Short Questions, Reading Fill in the Blanks, and Listening - Fill in the Blanks.

  • Some questions need a specific form answer. For example, In PTE Writing section, Essay and Summarise Written Text require a response with a specific word limit.

  • Some PTE questions test a quality response. The score of questions in the Speaking and Writing sections is based on English language skills such as grammar, oral fluency, pronunciation, spelling, vocabulary, and written discourse.

  • There are PTE questions which have negative markings as well. For example, Reading Multiple Choice Multiple Answers, Listening Highlight Incorrect Words and Listening to Multiple Choice Multiple Answers are the questions having negative markings. However, keep in mind that the minimum you can get for each of these questions is zero. You cannot get a -1 for each question as a whole. So, it is always better to give an attempt.
