PTE Writing
PTE Writing is one of the 4 sections of the PTE Academic Exam which assesses the flair of the PTE test-taker in writing English. It is the smallest module in terms of PTE Questions. It has only 2 question types.
PTE Writing Time
The PTE writing section is 30-40 minutes long. PTE gives fixed 20 minutes to write an Essay on the given topic. In the real PTE exam, you get fix 10 minutes to write a summary of the given text in the Summarise Written Text question type. You may have 2 questions of Summarise Written Text in the real exam.
Important: In a real PTE exam, PTE speaking and writing modules come together as a whole section of the exam with a total time of 54-67 minutes long.
PTE Writing Test Format, Question Types and Marks
1. Summarise Written Text (SWT): In this PTE task, write a one-sentence summary of the passage after reading the text.
- Prompt Length: Text up to 300 words
- Skills Assessed: Reading and Writing
- Time to Answer: 10 minutes
- Make sure to include the main points of the
reading passage in a full, single sentence of between 5 and 75 words.
- The word count at the bottom of the screen
counts the number of words you write.
- There are also cut, copy and paste buttons which
you may use while constructing your summary.
- Summarise Written Text is scored based on 5
parameters: Content, Form, Grammar, Spelling and Vocabulary

2. Essay: In this PTE task, write a 200–300 word essay on a given topic.
- Prompt Length: 2-3 sentences
- Skills Assessed: Writing
