PTE Grammar Rules
Use Below Grammar Rules to solve PTE Reading module blanks i.e. Reading and Writing Blanks (Drop Down Blanks), Reading Blanks (Drag & Drop Blanks):
1. If there is a blank right after an article (a/an/the), there will always be a 'noun'.
- Formula: Article (a/an/the) + Noun
- Example: Gerard had a friend who helped him in his time of need.
2. If there is a blank between the article (a/an/the) and the noun, it will always be an 'adjective'.
- Formula: Article (a/an/the) + Adjective + Noun
- Example: Steve played a great role in the success of his team.
3. If there is a blank right after a possessive pronoun (his, their, her, our, mine, your, etc.), there will always be a 'noun'.
- Formula: Possessive Pronoun + Noun
- Example: We will use his car tomorrow.
4. If there is a blank between a possessive pronoun (his, their, her, our, mine, your, etc.) and a noun, there will always be an 'adjective'.
- Formula: Possessive Pronoun + Adjective + Noun
- Example: She admired your stellar performance in the last month.
5. If there is a blank right after the helping verb (HV) is/am/are/was/were, there will either be the 'third form' or 'continuous form of the verb' (with 'ing').
- Formula: HV + Third or Continuous Form of Verb
- Example-1: John is playing football. (Active voice)
- Example-2: We were stranded in the mountains because of land sliding. (Passive voice)
6. If there is a blank right after the words be/been, there will either be the 'third form' or 'continuous form of the verb' (with 'ing').
- Formula: be/been + Third or Continuous Form of Verb
- Example-1: They have been trying to solve the problem for two hours.
- Example-2: The project will be completed by next month.
7. If there is a blank right after the word 'to', it will be the first form of the verb'.
- Formula: To + First Form of the Verb
- Example-1: I am here to represent my client.
- Example-2: Certain measures must be taken to rectify the situation.
